How do you do all that? Don’t you suffer from stress? I get those questions sometimes. And that is understandable.

I have a family with three children, a partner who has very variable hours, I run a business, am a beekeeper, take lessons, do voluntary work and am active in a number of networks.

Actually, I always ask myself the question: Why am I doing all this? And: Does everything I do make me happy? Because that’s the most important thing for me to not have excess stress. And especially by taking good care of myself.

Positive energy gives oxygen

Many of the things I do give me positive energy and so that is oxygen for me. Of course there are things that I find incredibly waste of time. I then look for solutions to save time there, both at home and at the office.

For example: wait until your washing machine is ready to hang the laundry. I couldn’t fit that into my busy schedule. Then you forget to empty your washing machine, that clammy laundry stays put. Then you get that smelly laundry that you have to do again. Trouble!

That really stressed me out. So I bought myself a second washing machine. They can now spin together bravely. And my planning is now such that I do all my large family’s laundry on Saturday. No more smelly laundry, all cupboards filled on Monday!

Ironing kitchen towels is another thing. Whoever invented that must have been a man. There is no other way. So I don’t iron kitchen towels. I don’t iron them either…

Where are those power banks?

Waiting for an important call and then only having 1% battery left on your mobile is another thing. Then growling at the first one who says: “You sell power banks or those charging cables, don’t you?”

Or if you have to go to a customer with a whole pack of samples and try to get everything in your book bag or trolley. And then realize that you are missing a few centimeters to put everything together.

Or what I am convinced is a joke from the cosmos: if you want to have a coffee at the office and the coffee machine says “fill water tank”, and then empty the container, refill beans. Then you think: now I’ve had everything. Then the machine says: descaling. That’s a grrr moment of stress.

‘Because it should’ deleted

Over the years I have let go of the phrase ‘because it should’. Certainly as soon as you have children, all sorts of things suddenly come at you because it should be.

The children must have at least two after-school activities, you must have a toned body as a supermom who is also in the gym at least twice a week. That is not sustainable for me personally.

I have three children, the two oldest of which combine football and horse riding with Chiro. That’s ahead of my own tight body at the moment (good excuse hey).

My house is sometimes a stable. Even though we live on a farm, it’s not something I like. But I have let go of the fact that every day everything has to be spick and span. The first to comment on that can take over my life for me for a week while I lie under a palm tree somewhere.

But I cook fresh every day, both soup and lunch or dinner. I’m not letting that go. I help my kids with their homework and follow it like a wolf. I find that personally important and I make time for it.

Abomination of empty promises

At the office I can get annoyed when empty promises are made. Too often I still trust people who take things less seriously when it comes to customer service than I do. I learn every day to deal with that and to become stricter about it.

I am convinced that “healthy” stress drives you to move forward in life. I do anything as long as it makes me happy. As long as positive energy flows, I do the things I do. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have to do things that don’t make me happy. There are still many, but that is part of life and business.

Sometimes there is an accumulation of too much stress. That’s how I experienced last summer. From that stress that I store in my body to be able to continue. Negative stress. Then it’s important to put yourself first.

Reflex therapy

Under the guidance of Kim Van Den Heuvel of PluFor, I started tackling stress through reflex therapy. Unbelievable what a difference in such a short time. Spots in my body that hurt suddenly disappeared after three sessions. Based on a before and after test, my stress level dropped by 82%. I was perplexed. All thanks to a few simple exercises that had such a big impact.

But fair is fair. In all the hustle and bustle I often forget to put myself first. Something typically feminine to live differently for our daughters. And how do I do that? With trial and error.

Positieve energie geeft zuurstof

Ellende!
